By Bryan Hood | The video for A$AP Rocky’s latest single, the Skrillex-featuring “Wild for the Night,” kicks off with the following slightly ominous message: “A$AP ROCKY went to the Dominican Republic to shoot a music video…this is what happened.” Despite the promised salaciousness of that opening, and the presence of some guys toting blurred out guns, it looks like Rocky and Skrillex’s vacation was actually quite pleasant, one filled with rooftop dancing, group scooter rides, and, of course, a killer party. The track itself is fairly bizarre, a clear grab at cross-over glory that troubles even pro-Rocky partisans, but the video, if anything is even weirder. There’s something exceedingly goofy about it, from Skrillex’s kung-fu movie entrance, to the karate kick-filled dancing that A$AP Ferg joins in on, to the surprisingly tame PG-13-feel of the clip — despite the presence of girls in bikinis, “Goldie” this isn’t. That said, we kind of like it, and for once it feels like Rocky is less concerned with coming off as cool, and more about having some fun. Then again, Rocky might thing this all makes him look awesome, in which case, he’s got much bigger problems than some hip-hop heads shaking their heads at his dubstep dalliance.
